Watercolor Sketching Out My Front Window

So, I am practicing watercolor sketching where ever I am. My feeling is that if I do these watercolor sketches as often as I can, I will make lots of mistakes, try out new ideas and generally learn more and improve my painting. On this sketchbook page, I was working on perspective and seeing values.....

Contemplating Painting a Rainbow

This was what we saw out of our backyard window yesterday after a pretty fierce rain storm here in No. San Diego. I have been tinkering with sketching the landscape in watercolor. I wonder if I can figure out how to paint a rainbow? I don't think I've painted a rainbow since kindergarten. Maybe that's the problem with us adult artists, we don't paint rainbows often enough. What do you think?

I Guess They Were Selling Flowers...

So, this is a painting I recently finished. The painting's inspiration came from a photo I took in a village in the Cotswolds. I have been trying out painting with a squirrel quill brush and Fabriano Artistico paper so I won't get stuck in a rut using the same old brush and same kind of paper just because I like them. This shopfront caught my eye as I walked past it and I snapped a quick photo. I guess they were selling flowers inside...

Why Do I Keep Painting Windows???

My daughter asked me the other day, "Why do you keep painting windows?" I am really not sure when my obsession with painting windows began... Maybe my obsession began once I realized that the variations in windows are endless. What ever the reason is, I continue to be fascinated with windows. Here is a painting I just finished that was inspired by a photo I took in the French countryside village of Durfort. Look at the the variations in these similar windows, doesn't it fascinate you?
